The IAFC was founded in 1873 as a result of The Great Chicago and Boston
fires. It is the 9th oldest association currently operating in the United
States and is an international non-profit 501(c)(3) association with more
than 11,000 fire and emergency service members. The IAFC represents the
leadership of firefighters and emergency responders worldwide. Our members
are the world’s leading experts in firefighting, emergency medical
services, terrorism response, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters,
search and rescue, and public safety policy.
