Cornell plans to test 5,000 to 7,000 students, faculty, and staff each day

In an effort to keep students, faculty, and staff safe and prevent widespread transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, Cornell University plans to test 5,000 to 7,000 students, faculty and staff per day for COVID-19, with results available within 24 hours. Development of the techniques, validation of the testing, and construction of the capacity to offer surveillance testing of this magnitude has taken place rapidly with the university and local and county medical resources working together. Self-collection of nasal swabs and pooled testing will facilitate the identification of pockets of community infection and quickly identify individuals with COVID-19.
