Biosensors can track metrics for a number of health-related concerns using monitors, smart watches, and smartphone applications. Researchers at University of California, San Diego's Center for Wearable Sensors have engineered a skin patch combining electrochemical sensors for alcohol, caffeine, glucose, and lactate with an ultrasound-based sensor to monitor blood pressure in the body. The first wearable device that tracks heart signals and biochemical levels at the same time is described in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering.
